Each result scores points according to the importance of the race and the placing. Added up over twelve months, they produce an individual and a teams ranking.
It is used as a reference for race invitations and for the WorldTeam / ProTeam hierarchy. On FlashPeloton, a rider's UCI rank is shown on their profile.
